A project I worked on with fellow UW students Matt Staniszewski, Danny Campton, Regina Luo, Mike Mao, Josh Scotland, Vijay Venugopalan, and Kelly Wang. I handled the Bluetooth software for our mobile app, which was used to control a “smart hub” home automation device that users would plug their home appliances into.

The idea was to prevent “vampire” standby energy drain while enabling remote monitoring of the user’s appliances. We also planned to let users see their current savings at any time, and included an energy bill calculator with practical tips on how to save power.

The team was a finalist at the 2012 Environmental Innovation Challenge, a competition for start-ups with a positive ecologic impact.
